What Charities Need To Know When Considering Salesforce
For nonprofit organisations, the prospect of implementing Salesforce can be daunting. You might find yourself asking: “Where do I start?” and “How does it work?” And if you’re not sure what Salesforce can do for your charity, it’s probably because you haven’t heard a lot about it yet. But there are plenty of reasons why nonprofits should consider using Salesforce, including how much money they could potentially save on administrative costs by switching to this cloud-based platform. In fact, according to one study conducted by Nonprofit CRM Reviewer (NCR), 68% of nonprofits reported that switching to Salesforce had saved them at least $10K per year!
In our experience of working with 250+ UK charities we have seen that many of them go on to save between 1-3 days per week in staff hours per person, as their administration time is hugely reduced, freeing them up to raise a lot more money!
101: What is Salesforce?
Salesforce is a customer relationship management tool. It’s an online platform that helps you manage your organisations work. Each year they provide many additional features and upgrades which are mostly free. The benefits of your nonprofit using Salesforce
Salesforce is a great tool for nonprofits to use in order to increase fundraising, manage volunteers and make sure that your organisation is running smoothly.
By using Salesforce you will be able to:
- Track donations and know where they came from. This can help you better target donors with similar interests so that you can find more who share the same passion as your organisation. It also allows you to better predict how much money will be coming in at any given time during the year.
- Manage volunteer efforts more efficiently so that volunteers are doing what they’re best at and allocating resources where they’re needed most or becoming overburdened with work due to lack of organisation within departments (fundraising department vs finance).

Salesforce is a cloud-based CRM system that helps charities keep track of donor information, manage event registrations and more. The platform also generates reports that can be used to help fundraisers understand how best to allocate their resources.
The company has created a special program called Salesforce charity 10 free licences, which gives eligible non-profits access to its software for free. The idea behind this initiative is that it will help charities improve their fundraising efforts and increase donations from existing supporters by making them more efficient in managing and processing data about their donors.
Salesforce have a wonderful commitment to supporting nonprofits and donate 10 licenses to all nonprofits registered with the Charity Commission in the UK. This means you can use Salesforce for free if your organisation is eligible. If you’re interested in this option, check out their website and download an application form here.
How can you use salesforce as a tool to help your nonprofit grow?
How can you use salesforce as a tool to help your nonprofit grow?
Salesforce is a great tool for nonprofits to use to scale their fundraising efforts, and it can be used across many aspects of the organization. For example:
A nonprofit could use Salesforce to manage their donation pipeline and help them see where they have opportunities for growth. This could be done by segmenting the donations based on who made them, when they were made, how much was donated and even what type of donation it was.
This will allow your organisation to better understand where its donors are coming from and if there are any areas that need improvement with marketing or other areas within the organisation. This also provides data about which types of campaigns are more effective at driving donations than others so that future campaigns can be created with those insights in mind.
Another example would be using Salesforce for volunteer signup management. Volunteer signups often happen through different channels like email newsletters or direct mailings from volunteers themselves but once someone has agreed to volunteer with your nonprofit they shouldn’t have multiple ways of signing up (i.e., by email vs snail mail).
With Salesforce this information can easily be tracked through one central database so all volunteer information is stored in one place instead of scattered around different databases/apps across various team members’ computers/phones/etc., making it easier for everyone involved!
