Agentforce is Salesforce’s Artificial Intelligence. Here is what it is made of, how it works, how your data is protected and what it costs, in plain words.

Agentforce is Salesforce’s Artificial Intelligence layer: agents that handle repetitive, time-consuming work - answering supporter questions, preparing reports, coordinating volunteers - so your people focus on the high-touch work only humans can do. Salesforce for nonprofits now runs on it, with more than 100 nonprofit agent use cases across fundraising, programmes, marketing, volunteering, grantmaking and operations - a small set prebuilt and available today, the rest built to fit.

What is Agentforce made of?

Agentforce Coworker

The assistant your staff use from the Salesforce search bar. It answers questions from your Salesforce data, Slack and other connected sources, and hands tasks to agents. It only ever sees what the signed-in person can see. Included in many Salesforce editions and available in Salesforce Foundations; in beta during 2026. Since August 2026 its default model is Anthropic’s Claude.

Agents

Built in Agent Builder from topics, instructions and actions, each agent does a defined job: a Prospect Research Agent prepares donor briefings, a Volunteer Capacity and Coverage Agent fills shifts, a Participant Management Agent answers questions from the people you support. They run in Salesforce, in Experience Cloud chat and in Slack.

Agentforce Nonprofit

Nonprofit Cloud, with a library of more than 100 agent use cases for fundraising, grants, programmes, volunteers and supporter care: a handful prebuilt, the rest templates to adapt.

Data 360 and the engine underneath

Data 360 (formerly Data Cloud) brings data from other systems into reach; some use cases need it, many do not. The Atlas reasoning engine plans and runs each task using models including Anthropic’s Claude, served inside Salesforce’s own trust boundary. You never buy a separate Claude licence for this.

How does Agentforce work?

Step one

A person asks, or a trigger fires.

A question in the search bar, a message in chat, or a record changing.

Step two

The agent retrieves only what that person may see.

Your permissions and field-level security carry through unchanged.

Step three

The engine plans and acts within its instructions.

The model reasons over the retrieved data and the agent’s topics, and takes only the actions it has been given.

Step four

The result comes back, with a log.

Prompts, responses and actions are recorded so you can review them.

What does Agentforce cost a charity?

If you are on Salesforce, you may already have it. Agentforce Coworker is included in many Salesforce editions and available in Salesforce Foundations, with usage drawing on the credits in your edition. Agents consume flex credits per action, which replaced the original per-conversation price and brought the cost of a typical action down to pence. Editions are being renamed during 2026, so we check your edition and forecast consumption before anything is switched on. There are no surprises on the invoice.

How is your data protected?

How is your data protected?

Salesforce wraps every agent interaction in what it calls the Einstein Trust Layer. Its themes are: permissions that carry through, so the agent sees only what the signed-in person can see, down to individual fields; zero data retention agreements with the model providers, so your data is not kept or used for training; detection of harmful responses; an audit trail of prompts, responses and actions; and data masking of sensitive values for certain features. Which of these applies depends on the feature in use, and Salesforce documents, for example, that masking does not apply to agents. We classify your data, scope the access, write the policy and test it before anything goes live, and we confirm which protections apply to your set-up.
